Special Education
Consistent with the district’s mission, Educating for Personal Excellence, special education services are targeted to ensure that each student with special needs has the opportunity to acquire the knowledge, skills, and competencies to achieve to his or her fullest potential. The Special Education department is headed up by Assistant Superintendent for Pupil Personnel Services, Dr. Lisa Castaldo.
Through its multidisciplinary team of dedicated professionals, the District delivers a continuum of programming to meet the individual educational needs of its students. For a general description of programs and services, click here.
The Committee on Special Education is responsible for evaluating all students suspected of having a disability, identifying the disability (or determining that no disability exists), and recommending appropriate special education programs and services. For information on the referral process, click here.
Strong partnerships between parents and schools are integral to maximizing student success. The District is committed to working closely with families to support students and encourages parent communication.
