As the official policymaking body of the Suffern Central School District, the Board of Education ensures that the district fulfills its mission to educate for personal excellence. The Board is comprised of seven members; each member is elected to serve an unpaid, three-year term. In its primary role as a prudent steward of the public’s investment in education, the Board is dedicated to the following strategic goals:
- Ensuring the district’s fiscal health by balancing fairness to the taxpayer and the best interests of students
- Developing policies that support the administration in implementing data-driven best practices to advance student achievement and manage district resources
- Assuring the district is able to meet the educational needs of all students and challenge each child to achieve to his or her fullest potential

Marlo Dickman, President
Marlo Dickman was re-elected to the Board of Education for her second term in May, 2024. Ms. Dickman and her family have lived in Montebello since 2011, drawn by the beautiful natural environment of the area and the excellent schools in the Suffern Central School District. Ms. Dickman has a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from the University of California, San Diego and a Juris Doctor from Pepperdine University School of Law. She has two children, one of whom currently attends school in the district. She is also a member of the Planning Board for the Village of Montebello.

Matthew Kern, Vice President
A certified New York State public librarian and trained archivist, Mr. Kern is a local business owner, operating a franchise in Rockland and Westchester counties. He holds a Master of Library Science degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and has three children in the District. Mr. Kern was first elected to the Board of Education in May 2016. In 2022, he was re-elected to the Board and will serve another three-year term.

Tom Donnelly
Mr. Donnelly was elected to the Board in May. A graduate of Suffern High School, Mr. Donnelly earned his bachelor’s degree from Mercy College and worked as a police officer for the Town of Ramapo before recently retiring. Mr. Donnelly has been a familiar face within the district, as he served as the Suffern High School resource officer for the past 17 years.

Darrell Frasier
Darrell Frasier is an Executive Referral Manager at Mercedes Benz USA, LLC and has lived in the school district for 13 years. Born in Queens, NY, Mr. Frasier was raised in South Carolina and is a graduate of the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy. He spent 20 years as a police officer, detective and inspector before retiring from the Mount Pleasant, SC police department. Currently he is also a Trustee in the Village of Sloatsburg and believes in volunteering on every level.

Jennifer Hodge
Mrs. Hodge was elected to the board in May of 2021. She is a lifelong Suffern resident, a graduate of Suffern High School and currently has two children attending Suffern schools. She graduated from West Chester University with a BA in English and is currently employed as an HR Generalist/Relationship Manager by a national, publicly traded PEO organization. During her adult years, Mrs. Hodge has made volunteering to serve the students in the community a priority.

Chris Nicpon
Mr. Nicpon was first elected to the Board in May 2019. For the past 19 years, he and his wife have lived in Suffern with their children, who all attended Suffern High School. Mr. Nicpon is a pediatrician in private practice at Valley Pediatric Associates and attended Siena College and Albany Medical School before completing his pediatric residency at the University of Connecticut. Mr. Nicpon is active in his church’s youth mission program and has chaperoned trips to New Orleans and Nicaragua. In 2022, Mr. Nicpon was re-elected to the Board of Education and will serve another three-year term.

Paul Shapiro
Mr. Shapiro was elected to the Board in May. A graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, he earned his master’s degree from the College of New Rochelle and an advanced certificate in administration/supervision from SUNY New Paltz. Mr. Shapiro is a retired school teacher and building administrator, and has held previous positions in the District including interim principal at Montebello Elementary School, and acting Assistant Principal at Suffern High School.
