Response to Intervention
Response to Intervention is an educational strategy that ensures that struggling and at-risk students’ strengths and needs are identified and addressed in a timely fashion. It consists of a three tier system of response to students’ needs, with Tier 1 addressing the needs of all students through the core instructional program.
Students who are not progressing adequately in Tier 1 may be moved to a Tier 2 program, with a more intensive and targeted intervention begun to meet the student’s needs. A Tier 3 intervention may be used for students who do not progress adequately in Tier 2, and this consists of a more individualized intervention program to address specific deficits.
Throughout the RtI process, a commitment is made to address students’ needs through the use of high quality, research-based, systematic instructional strategies and to monitor students’ progress regularly. The RtI framework can be used to address both academic and behavioral needs of students. More information can be found at the following link:
